A Tale of Two Seaweeds

The judges had known since the initial auditions that casting the role of Seaweed was going to be tough. The cheeky duo of Kadyn and Kyle, who gave Denise their phone numbers during singing auditions as well as Dancer and Street Poet Jermaine were the most likely candidates for the part. The decision was so tough that the role had remained uncast, until this week. With the grand performance fast coming into sight it was time to make a decision.

Everyone at Kingsmead had an opinion on who would make the better Seaweed; who was the better dancer, the better actor and who had the better accent. While they all had their strengths the judges announced that this would be the week to decide. With the choice now whittled down to Kadyn and Jermaine, the remaining pair of hopefuls attended rehearsals knowing that all eyes were on them. One slip up could mean they lost the part. Both coped admirably until the final performance of the day when the kids gathered to perform 'Without Love' to the panel.

All went well until Jermaine missed his line. Instead of continuing with the performance he fell apart, much to the dismay of the judges. From that moment on Jermaine, and everybody else, knew he would struggle to win the part. Denise and the panel called them forward to make their decision based on the day's performance and Kadyn was cast as Seaweed. Although disappointed, Jermaine vowed that his friendship with Kaydyn would not be affected. That ends the story of the two Seaweeds.
